New Mile Marker signs on US23

has anyone noticed them? i would go along with "MILE MARKERS",, but EVERY .2 of a mile??? RIDICULOUS, cost of signs plus labor of installing,,,, does anyone know of a reason for 2 tenths mile markers???

easier to report accidents so they can get there quicker...I81 has them every .1 of a mile, it's easier for police or rescue squad to find mile marker 45.6 than "somewhere on mile marker 45" and thats even if theyve wrecked close enough to a mile marker to know...this makes it easier for those involved in the wreck and the help to know exactly where the wreck has taken place

Yup I was an EMT for two years with Western Albemarle and they do help a lot.
Fun fact from Coach Wilson's Government class.
Every 1 out of 5 miles on the Eisenhower Interstate System has to be straight so planes can land on them during wartime (pretty sure we copied that one from Germany).

i guess you are correct, just don't understand if there is an accident at mile marker 53,, how long does it take to get to mile marker 54,, seconds?? I still think it is a waste of taxpayers money... but thanks for info..

not so much that is that if someone were to wreck smack dab in the middle of 53 and 54, would they know what the last marker they passed was? and if not, theyd have to walk half a mile to see the mile marker

I would venture to geuss that most people have some idea where they are on the interstate within 1-2 miles and that markers every mile would be sufficient to cover this. How many wrecks are there at one time that they would need to know what tenth it is on so they don't go to the wrong accident and pick up someone that hadn't allready called in and jumped in line in front of an accident that happened before theirs.
